Portugal Self-Consumption Solar Checklist for 2026

A homeowner checklist for UPAC paperwork, metering, exports, incentives and installer questions in Portugal.

The four checks before a deposit First, identify who handles the DGEG and grid paperwork. Second, confirm if the system will export surplus and on what commercial basis. Third, ask whether your existing meter supports the intended arrangement. Fourth, keep evidence: proposal, datasheets, installer accreditation, certificates and commissioning records.

Do not confuse production with savings A 5 kW system may produce well, but savings depend on timing. ERSE explains that regulated network access tariffs are part of all electricity bills while market energy prices vary by supplier. That means each self-consumed kWh avoids a different value depending on your plan, and exported kWh may be valued differently again.

Incentives: verify, do not assume The Fundo Ambiental homepage lists current and previous support notices. If a salesperson promises a grant, ask for the exact notice, eligibility rule, invoice requirement and deadline. Treat support as upside unless the programme is open, funded and your application is ready.

Installer questions - Which legislation and DGEG procedures are you using for this UPAC? - What changes if the technical rules announced in 2026 alter inspection details? - Who registers the system and who keeps the credentials? - What happens if the grid operator requires a correction? - Is export revenue included in the payback calculation or shown separately?

Homeowner takeaway A compliant solar project should feel boring: documented, registered, monitored and easy to explain. If a quote focuses only on monthly savings and not on registration, metering and export assumptions, ask for a revised version before paying.
